Through their creation it was intended to convey the power of the rulers of Egypt or anyone who looked at them, and in fact the large statues of Ramesses and his wife Nefertari still inspire a certain fear today.

The Abu Simbel Temple: was built from two temples; the first is the large temple to the pharaoh and is 30 m high and 33 m long and then the second is the smallest and is dedicated to Nefertari

Abu Simbel was rediscovered beneath the ruins in 1813 by the Swiss John Lewis Burckhardt. The desert sands had covered almost their entire structure, leaving exposed the tops of the heads of the enormous statues present in front of their entrance.
